Purim commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia from Haman’s plot “to destroy all the Jews in a single day.” It is customary for children to dress up in costumes, read the Megillah (book of Esther), which recounts the story of the Purim miracle, give money to the poor, send gifts to friends and partake in a festive Purim feast. Hamantaschen are three-sided triangular cookies with jelly or chocolate filling that we eat at Purim. They represent the hat that Haman wore.

Please join us to bake hamantaschen at the JCC. We provide the dough and fillings. All you need to do is come ready to shape, bake and eat on the spot (who can resist?!) or take home for later! Make a mask to wear. On Purim we emphasize the importance of friendship and community by sending “mishloach manot”—gifts of food to friends. We will donate our JCC basket to the Somerset County Community Food Bank. $5/Person (Please bring a can of food for our charity Shalach manot baskets.)
