Jews by Nature: Summer Camp, Youth, and American Jewish Culture

Fearful that growing affluence and suburbanization threatened the future of Jewish life in the decades after the Holocaust, American Jewish leaders hoped to preserve authentic Jewish culture through residential summer camps for Jewish youth. Prof. Sandra Fox (New York University) will examine how a sense of cultural crisis birthed a rite of passage for Jewish children across the country. This talk is free and open to the public. Advance registration is required on the Bildner Center's website.
