Deli Man Movie, Dinner & Concert at Temple B'nai Shalom -- April 16, 2016
By the 1930s, New York City alone had at least 1500 kosher and kosher- style delis. Now there are less than 24. How did they start? What were the staples of the deli menu? What is the legacy and the culture of the deli?
Join Temple B’nai Shalom on April 16, 2016 at 6:00pm to watch the “Deli Man” movie to find out the answers and to go on a nostalgic trip, not only about delicatessens, but also about the migration of the Jewish people into the American culture.
Experience a deli meal, watch the movie, and enjoy a concert by Cantors Jack and Fredda Mendelson. Cantor Jack Mendelson, an international performer and one of the leading cantorial masters of today, grew up in Brooklyn and has fond memories of his family’s restaurant there, which he shares in the movie. Cantor Mendelson is also the subject of the documentary film, “A Cantor’s Tale”. Cantor Fredda Mendelson is the Cantor Emerita of Larchmont Temple. She now enjoys concertizing with her husband Jack, their son, Danny, cantor of Temple Beth Shalom of Rockville Centre, and their daughter-in-law, Amanda, assistant cantor of Westchester Reform Temple.
Pricing at the Patron level is $54.00 per person which includes the concert, followed by dinner and the movie. Other sponsorship levels are available.
