“Exploring Peace in Islam and Judaism”, will be presented by Rabbi Debra Smith and Dr. Ali Chaudry on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 1:00-2:30 pm at The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum JCC, 775 Talamini Road, Bridgewater, NJ. The fee is $5.00.
Join us as we define and discuss the concept of peace in both faith traditions. We will then consider different difficult texts from the Qur’an and the Torah related to peace. How do our traditions advise us to act toward others of different traditions, even those who have caused us harm? What are the implications of these texts on how we treat others who believe differently from us? Where are the texts that call for peace in both of our Holy Books?
These discussions are part of a program called “Yearn to Learn” sponsored by Jewish Family Service of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties. “Yearn to Learn: (Y2L) has been created by retired and semi retired persons looking for high quality, interactive learning experiences in small, local group settings, which promote stimulating group interaction, self exploration and interpersonal connection.
